The Advanced Business Skills course, offered at the Rüsselsheim campus,
has been re-designed and features an intercultural focus this semester.
Students will become familiar with cultural dimensions as researched and
defined by Hofstede, Trompenaars and Hall, and use them to understand intercultural
communication and miscommunication, especially as they affect international
business relationships and activities. The course will examine a number
of critical incidents as well as examples of international corporate mergers,
but students will also develop intercultural awareness in experiential activities
and discussions. Participants will be responsible for out-of-class assignments
and brief research projects, as well as the analysis and presentation (with
a partner) of a successful or failed cross-cultural merger/project.
This course has an attendance requirement: students must attend 75% of all class meetings. Further absences will affect the final grade.
Planned class sessions: April 16, 23, 30; May 7, 14, 21; June 4, 11, 18,
25, 29
