(23.04.07) Use Internet or library resources
to research the cultural dimension assigned to you in class today. Come
to class next week (30.04.) prepared to clearly explain it, as well
as to provide helpful examples. You should be able to apply this dimension
to German culture and compare it to one or two other national cultures.
It might be helpful to have a visual (OHP or PPP).

(05.05.07) Together with a partner,
choose a country and research it from the perspective of doing business
with its citizens. (You may want to choose a country in which you are
planning to do an internship.) Referring to the various cultural dimensions
we've looked at, as well as to information you find on the Internet/in
the library, prepare and present (10 - 15 min.) a country profile in
class which would be helpful to business people. Be careful to avoid
superficial stereotypes and "do's and don'ts", although you
may mention them critically. The use of visuals is recommended; do NOT
plan to read your presentation, but rather to speak freely, using notes,
if necessary. E-mail me
your country choice/partner's name by Wednesday, May 9 (first come,
first served). Presentations will start on May 14!

| (29.05.07) Together with a partner,
choose a cross-cultural business merger/project/event. (You'll find
a list of suggested topics on the Materials
page.) This can be an example of either a success or a failure. Research
it to discover the causes for its success or failure, being sure to
mention cultural as well as "purely" business aspects; refer
to the cultural dimensions involved (Hofstede, Trompenaars, Hall). Prepare
an interesting 10-min. presentation of the insights you have gained.
These will be scheduled to start on
June 11. Your 250-word summary of the basic points of your research
will be due on June 29. (More details about the written assignment in
class.) |
